If/Then Series

What difference does a single digital sciences course make for students?

Former students reflect on how becoming digitally fluent influenced how they think, problem-solve, and approach challenges.

Building Games and Community

Tina Chi, Apple, Software Engineer

Tina's story shows how a childhood spent playing video games turned into the spark. And how one CodeAI, formerly Code.org, class taught her to think like a builder. That same instinct to build followed her all the way to a software engineering offer from Apple, before she'd even graduated. This is her If/then Story.

I started sharing my journey online as a woman in computer science because growing up, I never saw someone like me represented as a computer programmer or hacker. So by sharing my journey and what I'm building, people can see that they can do it too. Honestly, anyone can be in computer science and AI.

From Puzzles to Software Engineering

Samantha, LEGO®, Engineering Manager

If Samantha had never discovered her love for puzzles, then she wouldn't be building LEGO robots and inspiring the next generation. Her story shows just how problem-solving and AI + CS Education can make a dream come true. This is her If/Then Story.

I think it's really important for kids to learn AI and Computer Science. As AI tools become more common in our everyday use, I think it's really important that young people don't lose critical thinking skills.

How Curiosity Changed My Life

Luna, Google Software Engineer

Luna’s story shows how early exposure, tinkering, and curiosity come together to make her unique experience. The journey from curious student to Google engineer is proof: AI + CS Education opens doors. This is her If/Then Story.

AI education is important in understanding not only how it works, but the impact it has on the world. It can be an incredibly useful tool. That's why it's important for everyone to learn what it means to use it, how to validate it, how to critically understand and analyze AI results.

“My students learned that they don't have to just be consumers when it comes to technological advances that they are experiencing on almost a daily basis.

They can actually be creators!”
